Exhibiton Proposal Submission
Saint Mary's University Art Gallery is a public gallery that exhibits contemporary work in all media by professional artists from Nova Scotia, across Canada and around the world. Exhibitions are selected by the Director/Curator in consultation with gallery staff. We pay professional fees for exhibition rights, writing and curatorial services.
We accept proposals from artists and curators at any time. We encourage them to submit documents electronically, but we also accept hard-copy submissions. Submission materials usually include CVs, images (or audio/video if applicable) and a description of any specific project or exhibition proposal they may wish to make. These should include images of specific works they are proposing to show, if applicable, or images that give a general idea of their practice. For review purposes, we ask for between 10 and 25 images, of manageable file size.
Our exhibition programming is usually planned 2-3 years in advance, but openings sometimes arise sooner than that.
We review prospective exhibitions several times a year. This process can take some time to complete and we thank applicants for their patience and for their interest in the art gallery.
We encourage submissions all media, including “craft”-identified media (such as fibre, ceramics and metalwork) and from traditionally under- or mis-represented and groups such as women and members of Indigenous, African-descent, culturally diverse, minority-language, immigrant, LGBTQIA+ and deaf or disabled communities.
